Lasipalatsi

Lasipalatsi, which celebrated its 75th birthday last year, is the predecessor of modern shopping centres. An avant-garde project from 1936. Back then, restaurant Lasipalatsi was probably as futuristic as the Tallinn TV Tower is today.

They have tried to preserve the style of the 1930s. Back then, the restaurant was a place where people came to show themselves off. Now they come here to do business. It is a good idea to look for Finnish politicians and businessmen here at lunchtime.
The restaurant and bar have preserved the functionalism of the 1930s. This is rare in all of Europe. All the more so because Lasipalatsi was actually meant to be a temporary building.
Honest Finnish food has always been eaten at this restaurant. Today, it is prepared by Petri Simonen, a man with a long-term connection with the local cuisine and raw material.

Even though none of the producers have been turned into a trademark, many of the most important raw materials for the restaurant have a certain supplier. Theme weeks are organized four times a year.
The current theme is asparagus. On the plate, you can see asparagus with poached egg, bacon and Hollandaise sauce. The egg, placed on the asparagus as a tower, has been poached in the deep fryer. The prices of appetizers range from € 12.90–14.50.
The slow-cooked lamb neck from Aland (€ 26) is one of the most popular entrees. The prices of entrees range from € 18–29.50.
Rhubarb tartlet with white chocolate cream and strawberry ice cream (€ 9). The prices of all other desserts are the same.
At Lasipalatsi, one gets to taste history.

TOP 50 OF ESTONIAN RESTAURANTS

This ranking is born out of the votes of the key employees of various Estonian restaurants. Each voter compiles a personal list of 7 restaurants that he or she thinks are the best in Estonia. The voters must have visited these places and the list cannot include the voters’ employers or restaurants related to their personal property.

The restaurants that have been included in someone’s top 7 are invited to cast their votes as well. Each restaurant can appoint up to three of their most important employees as their voters: one member from the management team, one member from the kitchen staff and one member from the service staff.

Taking part in the voting is strictly voluntary, not obligatory. The top 50 of Estonian restaurants is made up of restaurants that win the greatest number of votes.
