Kiin Kiin is coming to Chedi

Who is coming and where? Not a very clear message! This resembles one of those fictitious childhood lingos made up when playing. The insiders could understand everything, while the outsiders didn’t have a clue. Such fun...

For those who appreciate Asian food, the above heading delivers a joyous message. Kiin Kiin is a Copenhagen restaurant with highly modern Thai cuisine. Just as our Chedi`s Chinese dishes are exceptional, so is Kiin Kiin`s Thai food exciting in other ways.

Kiin Kiin is a small restaurant located slightly outside of Copenhagen downtown where many foreign languages are spoken both indoors and outdoors. A Thai restaurant carrying a Michelin star is a rarity that people want to see and discover regardless of distance. On Friday, September 25th this restaurant will be brought right to our doorstep.

Kiin Kiin is a restaurant unique in everything. The kitchen prepares both Michelin-star-worthy gourmet fare as well as takeaway food. Yes, it’s true − you can have slightly simpler versions of the restaurant’s dishes at takeaway prices!

In the restaurant, a multiple course dinner is started with the so-called street cuisine, and not in the dining area, but on a sofa in the lounge. If you are familiar with Thai street food you will find that the dishes served in the lounge of Kiin Kiin are indeed similar. That’s right, similar, because you can taste some familiar flavours. But the dishes, some presented on newspapers and cobbles, are genuine gourmet food, worthy even of being served with authentic champagne. And that is exactly what is done.

Having tasted all that, the visitor is then led to the upstairs dining area. Here, highly modern food meets ultra modern design. The tableware is as unique as the food itself.

The client only needs to make one decision - whether to have the full menu with complementary wines or with non-alcoholic beverages. Everything else has already been thought thorough and decided for the client.

Kiin Kiin`s menu is not changed every season, but every month. Besides the ground floor street kitchen, five courses are usually served, comprising more than ten dishes. There is also a shorter version of the menu, or the theatre menu, available for those who wish to begin their theatre night with theatrical food.

Henrik Yde Andersen, the manager of Kiin Kiin, is a versatile man. He developed a fondness for Thai food in the five years he lived in Thailand. He mastered his top-chef abilities while working for Paul Cunningham, one of the most famous chefs in Denmark, in The Paul restaurant. And he is also a learned sommelier into the bargain.

The wines and beverages served in Kiin Kiin are just as exceptional as the food. It is definitely a good idea to go to Kiin Kiin by car. Indeed, the non-alcoholic beverages instead of wines are even more interesting, so non-drinkers are privileged rather than neglected.
Kiin Kiin received its Michelin star last year, only six months after its opening. “Critics have been very gracious towards us,” says Henrik modestly of the many titles already awarded to his restaurant.

On September 25th at 7.00 pm Kiin Kiin will serve their full menu, with or without complementary beverages, at Chedi.
