Lümanda’s hostess Juta Pae used to work as a physician. She insists that the prettier the package, the shoddier the food. You will not find anything store-bought in Lümanda’s eating house.
Food is cooked according to old local recipes. So local, in fact, that even people from other parts of Saaremaa might not know them. One of such dishes is the so-called tub bread, made from mashed potatoes, greaves, onions and dark barley flour. With the local farm milk, it tastes heavenly.
The food served in the eating house is the simplest home cooking, the ingredients of which generally originate from the same village and the nearby sea. However, it is prepared in such a way that townspeople often mistake the humble plaice in the soup for rare eel.
