Sangaste Rye House – proud to be local

Although only one and a half thousand people live in Sangaste Parish, the name of Sangaste is known far away from Estonia. And that due to the eponymous variety of rye grown here which is the oldest variety of rye presently grown in the world.

The restaurant of Sangaste Rye House is a modest glorification to this type of grain, the taste of which is the first thing that Estonians will miss while staying away from home for a long time. Besides black bread, plenty of food and drinks can be made from rye.

If Estonia had a taste, it would probably be the taste of rye.
